(Nairobi to Masai Mara 265kms Approx. 6 hrs.)

Meal Plan: Lunch, Dinner

We will pick you up early from your hotel or beach resort and transfer you to the Mombasa airport.

0530 hrs.  Kenya Airways flight from Mombasa to Nairobi. During this one-hour flight, you’ll view the early morning sun lighting up the African plains.

0630 hrs.  You’ll arrive at Nairobi where your guide will meet you.

We’ll head out for the Masai Mara Reserve in our Land Cruiser Jeep, traveling over the central Kenya highlands, with plantations and local farms. This is Masai country and we may pass by the traditional herders out in the fields. We’ll be traveling along the Great Rift Valley and will make stops to gaze at the deep gorges and rises of the dramatic escarpment.

Arriving at the park in the afternoon, we’ll have plenty of time for our first game drive through this beautiful reserve of golden savannah seemingly decorated throughout with Africa’s distinctive acacia trees.

Over the next 3 days here, you’ll witness the highest density of wildlife in the region. The park boasts over 95 species of mammals and an unusually high population of lion, leopard, and cheetah.

This is the first of our two nights in the reserve. You’ll stay at your choice of safari lodge or tented camp.

Meal plan: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Get ready for lots of game drives and incredible animal viewing in this dense and dramatic park. Besides being home to Africa’s “Big Five” large mammals, the Masai Mara is the site of the largest movement of animals anywhere, the Great Migration.

During this migration season (July – October) it is estimated that over 2 million wildebeests, zebras, and smaller topi and eland flow into the park, crossing the Mara River. Waiting for them are crocodiles, lions, and other predators. It is a life and death struggle that plays out in a yearly cycle of dramatic proportions.

But even after the migration has completed, the park is awash in great troops of wildlife, so have your camera ready as there is so much to see. We’ll visit the Mara River and other sites in this world-famous park tracking the hunters and grazers.

Learn about the nearby Maasai villagers with an optional visit to their homestead. Just ask your driver/guide to make arrangements.

A truly unforgettable experience is the optional hot air balloon ride at dawn.  As you rise in the early morning light, you’ll witness the park coming alive with wildlife crossing the plains below. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime moment.

This will be our second and final night spent at the Mara.

MASAI MARA – LAKE NAKURU (285kms, Approx. 6-7  hrs)

There is nothing like the dawn with its golden light breaking over the Mara. We’ll take advantage of this magic hour for an early game drive, traversing the brightening fields, looking for wildlife emerging from the tall grass.

After breakfast, we’ll enjoy a final game drive, exiting the park, now headed for Lake Nakuru.

Arriving at the in the mid-afternoon, we’ll get acquainted with the park, driving around the lake and taking in the world of birdlife – pelicans, cormorants, ostriches, storks, and pink flamingoes thriving here.

Lake Nakuru also hosts the endangered Rothschild’s giraffe, plus hippo, baboon and monkey.

We will spend one night here at your choice of safari lodge or tented camp, all with budget, comfort or luxury options

LAKE NAKURU – NAIROBI (160 km, Appr. 3 hrs)

We’ll be up with the birds because there are so much to see in this active park. But there’s larger wildlife here as well. We’ll be tracking for lion, leopard, cheetah, buffalo, warthog, and antelope.

The park features a rhino sanctuary, hosting one of the country’s largest populations of black rhino. Indeed, there are so many rhinos here that we’re guaranteed sightings of both black and white rhinos.

And we may have time to discover the dense Acacia forest with sightings of impala and waterbuck. In all, Lake Nakuru is a place of delightful variety in its landscape and its varied wildlife.

We’ll depart the park by mid-afternoon with an easy drive back to Nairobi and the airport for your flight back to Mombasa.

1830 hrs. Departure from Nairobi

1930 hrs. Arrival in Mombasa

We’ll be there at the airport in Mombasa to pick you up and transfer you to your hotel or resort.

Thank you for joining us for these four days of safari fun. We look forward to our next adventure with you!
